SHADOWRUN MISSIONS

THURSDAY, Nov. 10    6:30 pm

Shadowrun Missions (SRM) is the official role-playing campaign sponsored by Catalyst Game Labs. In SRM, players create a character and participate in sanctioned events throughout the world. This gives players the unique opportunity to play a Shadowrun character of their own design with different people and different perspectives, and affect the storyline of the campaign.

Usually SRM is offered every other Thursday; Thanksgiving will get in the way this month.

DEMO: AMBYRIA

Saturday, Oct. 22    Noon – 5 pm

A fantasy card game, Ambyria is a non-collectible strategy card game with a dash of luck and a pinch of chaos.   Playing as one of four heroes, you collect the mysterious ember stones to defeat Ingduhl the Shadow Demon. Only the hero who collects the most ember stones will be able to defeat the Shadow Demon and save the world from his shroud.

In either a fierce dual between hardened experts or a four-player frenzy, players amass ember stones by strategically using card effects. Unique to Ambyria is the concept of an umbrella effect over your play area called the Mode, which will determine the tactic for your turn. Whether you need to gather more resources, or you need more time to play your cards safely, or if you are ready to claim your ember stones, your mode will be important on your path to victory.

DEMO: NINJA ALL STARS

Sunday, Oct. 16      Noon

Ninja All Stars allows for 2 to 4 players to take control of a team of ninja and battle over objectives. Each Ninja Clan is drawn from a different element (6 in total), with each element providing different bonuses in-game. As well, the game’s dice mechanic is based on the element system, using a rock-paper-scissors type of dice elimination to determine the outcome of various aspects such as combat, searching, and special abilities. It is important to note that combat is not a simple “I rolled more swords than your shields”; the elimination of dice will give the winner a choice of different combat results based on the remaining dice. The interesting point here is, ninja don’t die in this game-rather,they are knocked out and placed in their team’s dojo, where they rest and recover and may eventually be brought back onto the board. The rules allow for one-off scenario games as well as league play with guidelines on ninja advancement, meaning that players can develop their ninja over many games.

HEATHER DALE BAND

Friday, Oct. 14    7 pm     $15

Canadian recording artist & touring musician Heather Dale writes songs for imaginative people of all ages who aren’t afraid to be different.     Known for her interpretations of ancient legends, she cheerfully disregards the limits for both folk singer-songwriters and Celtic balladeers, and fuses the folk tradition with blues and jazz influences. Her original music “is powerful stuff… with a depth and resonance rooted in its mythic sources” (Vancouver Sun), and is reminiscent of Loreena McKennitt and Sarah McLachlan.

As a modern woman with Celtic roots, Heather is perhaps best known for her Youtube hit “Mordred’s Lullaby” (12.7 million views as of 2016) and has released 17 recordings. The Heather Dale Band has been touring extensively around North America and Europe since 2004, with 100+ shows per year from 2004 to 2014.      Born and raised in Toronto, Heather worked as an environmental educator before turning her steps toward a career in music. Choosing to retain control over her career, she founded her independent record label Amphis Music in 1998 and continues to manage it full-time with her business partner Ben Deschamps.

In 2016, Heather released her first original musical theatre production (Queens of Avalon), which was the result of a highly successful crowdfunding campaign.    Visit QueensOfAvalon.com for details.
